Abstract

This book provides a broad framework of the UK financial system within which the nature and operations of the respective financial institutions and markets are then analysed. The emphasis is on institutions and markets as dynamic entities which react to their environment, the major elements of which are competition, regulation and market structure. The text is thus analytical rather than descriptive, to reflect the reactive and proactive nature of UK financial institutions and markets.
