Requirements for Implementation
This chapter and Chapter 6 are structured with the intention of leading the reader through the essential processes on the way to successful and effective implementation. In this chapter we show how control strategies which have been synthesised by the methods of the preceding chapters may now be translated into general functional and computational requirements. This is a vital process which is ideally carried out prior to deciding upon a specific processor around which to design a digital controller. Chapter 6 then deals with the more specific issues of hardware and software. Throughout both chapters, a strongly design-orientated approach is maintained in order that the reader not only learns practical design methods, but also gains an appreciation of the important issues concerned with the implementation of digital controllers.
