Abstract

The conventional family is built around husband, wife and children and its relationships are essentially complex and triangular. The relationship between husband and wife is mediated by their relationship to children and the interaction between mother and child is influenced by their relationship with husband/father. The loss or loosening of marital ties affects children as well as partners and this chapter will explore the consequent transformation of family life and the divergence of interest between women, men and children.
