Abstract
In this chapter several simple thermodynamic systems, including the simple fluid and elastic rod introduced earlier, will be examined briefly. The primitive coordinates of the system will be noted, an expression written down for the work interaction in a reversible process and, where appropriate, equations derived that relate changes in the primitive coordinates through quantities characteristic of a particular system.
