Abstract

Over the years, while I have been working on menstruation, I have increasingly asked myself how it came about that I have written such a nasty book. No-one wants to know about menstruation: why fight it? What men say about it is hateful; why not just ignore them? Why make women angrier than they already are, by showing them things they are not meant to see? Why should I myself have to feel so angry, again and again, just reading over the words of these perfectly ordinary well-meaning men? Don’t I have enough trouble in my life without publicly identifying myself with this highly stigmatised subject?
