Interorganizational Coordination in Neighborhood Development: Four Cases

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Policy Studies Organization Series ((PSOS))

Abstract

Neighborhood development involves multiple organizations: no single agency, group or institution can undertake a neighborhood development program or revitalization project alone. Usually several organizations are involved in the activity of neighborhood development, implying a degree of interdependence among these other members of the ‘implementation set’, ‘action set’ or ‘interorganizational field’ (Hjern and Porter, 1981; Aldrich and Whetten, 1981). This requires concerting their decisions and activities in a process of interorganizational coordination (IOC) (Rogers and Whetten, 1982).
