Abstract

It seems appropriate to make some comment about current educational and and youth-policy matters in Northern Ireland in the light of my ethnographic findings. Together with other youth ethnographers I have a commitment to a style of sociological writing that seeks to intervene in contemporary debates about youth policy by bringing to bear critical theoretical perspectives on educational and youthwork practice. Surely social researchers are under some obligation to trace the implications of their ethnographic findings and theoretical reflections for schooling and youth work practice?
