Abstract
Some see the future of the Community as an expanding free trade area with the emphasis on free markets, the mobility of factors of production, labour capital and enterprise, and a legal framework that regulates commerce and trade with the minimum of hindrance. They stress the ‘market of 320 million people’, economies of scale, position to influence international affairs and the maintenance of distinctive national customs and culture. They support the policies put forward in the Single European Act because they see the completion of the internal market as realising their hopes.
