Abstract
The notorious generation gap, dividing parent from offspring, is often crystallised in linguistic form. The two generations are said to speak different languages, or, since that is an obvious exaggeration, it is more accurate to say that they use different words and expressions. In this section attention will be focused upon one or two points which show how age is a significant factor in determining how people speak.
