Abstract

The standard methods of solving second-order differential equations with constant coefficients, e.g. \(a{{{{\rm{d}}^2}y} \over {{\rm{d}}{{\rm{x}}^{\rm{2}}}}} + b{{{\rm{dy}}} \over {{\rm{dx}}}} + cy = F\left( x \right)\), are either by substitution of an assumed solution or by using operator D methods. In either case, the general solution is first ascertained and the arbitrary constants evaluated by insertion of the initial conditions.
