Abstract
The Sale of Goods Act 1893 codified the law of sale, but during the course of time a few amending statutes were passed, notably the Unfair Contract Terms Act 1977. See Chapter 10.5(f) and the Appendix. The present law is now consolidated by the Sale of Goods Act 1979. The Act deals with certain specific matters such as transfer of property and implied terms, leaving the rules of common law and the law merchant to apply except to the extent that they might be inconsistent with the Act: s.62(2).
