Individual Work with Children

Abstract

To ‘rescue’ abused children by removing them from the source of abuse is not enough. To ‘reform’ the parents, working with them to alter their abusive behaviour is also not enough. If abused children are to be helped they must be released from the misconceptions, false learning and negative emotions described in the previous chapters. These imprison them in a world of fear, mistrust, self-denigration and isolation long after the abuse itself has stopped.
