Abstract

In order to comprehend reproductive endocrinology, it is important to understand the basic differences in some of the steroid hormones. This can be difficult to follow as the chemical structures look very similar. The basic steroid structure is three 6-carbon rings and one 5-carbon ring arranged as shown here. The chemical name is a perhydrocyclopentaphenantrene ring.
