Abstract

John Clifford Mortimer was born in London and educated at Harrow School and Brasenose College, Oxford. As a barrister he has been a notable opponent of censorship. His first play, The Dock Brief, was broadcast on radio and television in 1957 (published 1958). His later writing for television includes the series about Rumpole of the Bailey. A Voyage Round My Father (performed 1970; published 1971) is a tribute to his father, Clifford Mortimer, a blind barrister.
