Abstract
Of the popular taboid newspapers sold in Scotland, the Record is both the most Scottish and the most successful. Not only is it far ahead of the Sun in sales — at 770 000 a day against 265 000 — but it has the highest proportionate sale within its distribution area of any daily newspaper anywhere in the UK. Its 770 000 daily average represents 1 copy for every 7 people, while the Sun’s UK average of 4 150 000 represents 1 copy for every 13. The Daily Record is also one of the biggest money-makers among Mr Robert Maxwell’s Mirror Group newspapers.
