Abstract

Analyzing the Southeast Asian region, one soon encounters a paradox. Viewed from any standpoint — economic, social, cultural, political or strategic — the area has a crucial importance. Yet the degree and quality of much of the research on the region often does not enable one to address the most important aspects of its current and future development.
