Abstract

This chapter will look briefly at the videotex system since it has much in common with the teletext system. Videotex is the name given to any computer system that uses television screens to display information transmitted via telephone lines. A videotex system also has a certain method of structuring the information on the computer and a teletext-like method of displaying the data. The name videotex has now superseded the original name of Viewdata which was used by the then British Post Office (now British Telecommunications (BT)) for the first of these types of information systems.
