Creating a New Consensus in Education
It is clear from the opinion polls that the way we educate our young people is a matter of major public concern and that a full evaluation of our present education system and future requirements must be a top priority for the Government. What follows is based on a lecture I delivered in memory of Hugh Gaitskell at the University of Nottingham in March 1983. At the invitation of the Editor of this volume I have reconsidered the issues in the light of recent developments.
