Job Generation in Other OECD Countries

  • Chapter
Job Generation and Labour Market Change

Abstract

The pioneering work of Birch, and the subsequent work of the Brookings researchers, discussed in Chapter 3, led to many attempts to replicate these studies in other countries, notably the United Kingdom. Several studies have also been carried out in other European countries, New Zealand and Japan. The aim of this chapter is to provide a critical review of these studies, with particular attention being focused upon the question of firm size and job generation.
