Abstract

The impact of the 1964 mutiny on Uganda’s politics was enormous, going far beyond the sphere of defence policy. Apart from bringing about an improvement in conditions of service, and speeding up the pace of Africanisation within the military, it prompted a revision of Uganda’s policy in international relations. On the domestic scene, the period after the mutiny was characterised by attempts to manipulate the military for political purposes.
