Abstract
In the previous chapter the word ‘courseware’ was introduced as an umbrella term to describe the many different types of instructional software that are likely to be employed in a computer-based teaching situation. For many of those who become involved in learning and training applications of the computer, the mechanisms of producing courseware will be an obvious concern. As was established in chapter 1, any attempt to discuss the design and development of instructional material for use in a CAL/CBT environment must take into account a number of important considerations. Prominent among these will be the people involved, the underlying pedagogic philosophies, and the subject matter that is to be conveyed.
