Abstract

The analysis of local politics and struggles for racial equality which we develop in this chapter has emerged out of our involvement in local organisations, the focus of discussion in the previous chapter. Our participation in local campaigns and our involvement in consultative and pressure group activity has brought us into contact with officers and politicians of the local authorities in both Liverpool and Wolverhampton. More specifically, our knowledge of those local political structures has developed on the basis of our involvement in equal opportunity and housing campaigns in Liverpool and political interventions in the fields of education and youth provision in Wolverhampton.
