Indochina: An Arena of Conflict
My subject is Indochina — an arena of conflict. It is a large subject and in an attempt to make it more manageable, I am going to consider conflict in the sense of competing national interests. Over the past thirty years or so, the interests of France, the United States, China and the Soviet Union have met and conflicted with each other in the peninsula of Indochina, and all have conflicted with the aspirations of the Vietnamese Communists.
