Abstract

It is no exaggeration to state that training is the basis of both prevention and management. This chapter is therefore concerned with training social work staff to anticipate and deal competently with the threat of violence. We shall firstly consider the need for training, and then move on to look at some relevant principles, the content of training programmes, and methods of training, including some that we have tried.
