The Working of the 1967 Abortion Act in Britain
In 1974 a Committee chaired by Mrs Justice Lane reported on the first four years’ experience of the working of the 1967 Abortion Act. This chapter draws on the Lane Report (Lane, 1974) to a great extent. In addition, it outlines the political and administrative consequences of the Act, the sociological effect on its beneficiaries and on the medical profession, and provides some additional data that have become available since the Lane Report went to press.
