Abstract
The ankle involves a number of articulations: the inferior tibio-fibular joint; the tibial-talar articulation; the subtalar joint; and the various articulations between the ankle bones bound together by numerous ligaments (syndesmoses). Injury to this area may result in fractures or in damage to these stabilising ligaments, causing dislocation and diastasis of the ankle joint.
