Abstract
From the outset the transportation of radioactive materials has been recognized as an activity involving possible hazards to those moving the material and to the general public as wsell. This is particularly true in the case of transporting spent fuel. For that reason, those involved in developing the regulations concerning the packaging and transportation of radioactive materials in general and spent fuel in particular have continuously directed their attention to ensure that this activity was conducted in as safe a manner as possible.
