Abstract

Although options on ordinary shares have existed in the UK since the seventeenth century, the opening in 1978 of the UK Stock Exchange traded options market has reawakened interest in this type of investment. Also, advances in the techniques of valuing options have encouraged trading in options and in securities incorporating an option element, for example convertible unsecured loan stocks.
