Abstract
Of the four plays discussed in this chapter, one dates from the earliest period of Pirandello’s theatre writing and the remaining three date from the later period, with The Mountain Giants still unfinished when Pirandello died in 1936. Liolà, published in 1917, was first performed in 1916. The New Colony was published in 1928 and performed in the same year, while Lazarus was performed and published in 1929. The two acts of The Mountain Giants were performed posthumously in 1937, and published in the following year.
