Abstract

The skin of the face is attached to the underlying tissue, in which there are many subcutaneous muscles. In the scalp the skin is attached to a broad sheet of connective tissue. The red margin of the lips meet laterally at the angle of the mouth and the philtrum is the shallow vertical groove between the nose and red margin (philtron = love potion, the groove on the upper lip, Greek; the site where such a potion could be placed and act as an aphrodisiac).
