The Individual and the Team

  • Malcolm Payne
Part of the Practical Social Work book series

This chapter looks at individuals’ relationships with others in a team. In Chapter 4 I suggested that encouraging sharing was a way of moving to a more collaborative style of teamwork in the group, as such sharing increased, and this is examined towards the end of this chapter. The first section discusses what individuals bring to a work group. The second section considers how relationships might be established and developed. The third looks at ways of dealing with relationship problems which often arise in teams. Finally, these sections are a foundation for the subsequent discussion of promoting sharing.
