This chapter concentrates on ways of developing teams as groups, and in the process considers problem-solving, task and role structures in general. Dealing with individual relationships is considered in Chapter 5, but people concerned with developing relationships in teams without wholesale team-building exercises will probably need to use some of the structures discussed here. Two alternative strategies are possible, one in which there is a direct and explicit concern with group process. Alternatively, the content of some process of working together can be altered: since an aspect of working together changes, so too do group processes.
