Postscript: The future

Part of the Progress in Rehabilitation book series (PRORE)

The theme of this book (and the series) is the approach of the rehabilitation team to a specific medical problem, in this instance, paraplegia. Almost every article published in recent years on current practice in medicine pays homage to the concept of ‘team-work’. In practice, team-work remains the exception rather than the rule. Communication means meeting and talking to colleagues regularly, not on an ad hoc basis. The weekly meeting formalises communication between disciplines and is as important for the patient’s sake as it is for members of the team. ‘Too busy to attend a weekly meeting’ is a nonsense, provided, of course, that there is only one major meeting a week for the team!
