Abstract

It is quite likely that, before you started to read this book, your impression of a computer department was that of a team of technical boffins locked away in the basement of the offices somewhere, busily tinkering away with an electronic monster. Your new understanding of the nature of the computer will probably have changed this image somewhat, but possibly you will still be a little doubtful as to how you personally can get to use the computer. Needless to say, the approach varies from installation to installation, but this chapter tells you the way things are likely to be done, and at least indicates for whom you ought to look, and how you might talk with them.
