Abstract

In Chapter 2 the mathematical approach to fluid mechanics was outlined. It is undoubtedly a very powerful technique but it is not the only approach available. Engineers use essentially the same methods in a rather different form. For example the continuity equation, the force equation and the energy equation, all of which were given in cartesian coordinates and in differential form in Chapter 2 are used in their natural coordinate integrated forms in engineering practice.
