Abstract
By definition, alternating quantities vary continuously not only in magnitude but also in direction. This raises some problems when attempting to draw ‘direction’ arrows on circuit diagrams for such quantities as voltage and current. The notation used in a.c. circuits follows the general principles laid down in chapter 1 for d.c. circuits as follows.
