Abstract
When a four-cylinder car is travelling at 50 mile/h, the engine may be turning over at 3,000 rev/min, so that 6,000 combustion processes are taking place each minute. Therefore the ignition system has to be capable of providing this number of sparks each minute. If the car is a vee-eight with a maximum engine speed of 5,000 rev/min, the requirements of the system increase to 20,000 sparks each minute.
