Abstract

The phrase ‘the ordinary (i.e. stock) use of the expression “…”’ is often so spoken that the stress is made to fall on the word ‘expression’ or else on the word ‘ordinary’ and the word ‘use’ is slurred over. The reverse ought to be the case. The operative word is ‘use’.
