Abstract

Definition.—Purpura is a haemorrhagic skin manifestation of which some instances are primary and others are symptomatic. Reddish or purplish spots of various sizes and shapes which are called, according to their size, petechias, ecchymoses and haematomata, form in and beneath the skin and mucous membranes. A diagnostic sign is that the blood colour does not disappear on pressure.
