Note on Size of States and Cost of Administration in Australia

Abstract

In Australia, as in other federal countries, it is possible to compare the per capita cost of government services in states of various sizes. Such comparisons are made annually by the Commonwealth Grants Commission in the course of its examination of the claims of the smaller states for special federal grants.
