Abstract

Light and the effects of light are a major element in the human sense of the environment. Both artificial and natural sources of light are used in buildings and these sources can be supplied and controlled in many ways. This chapter describes the nature of light, the effect of light upon the eye and the brain, and the measurement of light and lighting.
