Application of Hexapod Based Devices in Machines
A heavy discussion on new structures in machine tool engineering was initiated at the International Machine Tool Show (IMTS ’94) in Chicago by the presentation of hexapod machine tools from Giddings&Lewis, Ingersoll and Geodetic. However, such structures have rather raised the interest of research institutions instead of users. Compared with conventional machines, hexapod technology will have a lot of advantages. Applications in many kinds of technique will be possible. The paper will discuss the state of the art and the application of hexapod structures in optical industry, cutting machine tools and automated press lines.
