Abstract

In many instances, it is necessary to support heavy vertical loads over long spans resulting in relatively large bending moments and shear forces. If the magnitude of these is such that the largest Universal Beam section, even when compounded with plates, is inadequate then it is necessary to fabricate a beam utilizing plates welded together into an I-shaped section.
