Abstract

Ukraine is an amalgam of regions differing in their ethno-demographic, geopolitical, economic, social and cultural characteristics. Taking into account this peculiarity is vital for successful state building, whereas neglecting it may create impediments and, under certain conditions, even result in the destruction of the state. The first three years of the existence of an independent Ukraine demonstrated that the lack of an active regional policy substantially weakened the process of state building as a whole.
