Chapter
Part of the Practical Social Work book series

Abstract

The early part of this book explored how the exercise of statutory powers and duties cannot be undertaken in a vacuum, and provided a context for legal knowledge within both the functions of the law in society and the complexity of the social work task. One potential outcome of this is to deny social workers any certainty about what to do and when to do it. Consequently some boundaries must be placed around the uncertainty, a framework provided for the decisions that have to be taken in daily practice.
