Abstract

It is an interesting paradox that among the West’s expert adviser — whether international institutions such as the IMF, government consultants or private entrepreneurs — concerning Eastern Europe’s road to prosperity, relatively few have found it worthwhile to draw on the experience of the East Asian NICs. Yet their importance as examples of successful capitalist catching-up cannot be ignored.
