The Social Construction of Management

  • Chapter
The Social Construction of Community Care

Abstract

The intention of this chapter is to explore the model of management which has developed over the course of the twentieth century, reaching its zenith in the last two decades of the century, when management has been deemed throughout the world to be essential to those health and social services organisations which had previously managed without ‘managers’. The second part of the discussion will analyse how this model has affected managers themselves. Finally the impact of a new style of management upon health and social care services will be considered.
