Having practised as qualified social workers and worked in various agencies for more years than we care to remember, we have also taught social work students at the University of Huddersfield. The course module on assessment has always been the most particular challenge for us, and we have sought to develop competencies in the preparation of useful assessments that lead to planned intervention for the users of a range of services. In more recent years, we have been seeking new ways to bring clarity to this complex subject and also to address shifts in social work theory.
