Abstract

The first chapter of this book has shown that the concept of quality cannot be defined in simple, unambiguous terms; its use is complicated by many other problems besetting social work, not least, criticisms of the work social workers do, as well as questions about how well they do it. Also, many ingredients contribute to the raising of concerns about quality, and these operate in different ways for the variety of stakeholders involved in policy and practice.
