Abstract
This chapter provides an introduction to a broad range of topics essential for anyone studying electronic and electrical engineering, ranging from the manipulation of equations, through units in common usage, to calculations involving resistivity and resistance-temperature coefficient. By the end of this chapter, the reader will be able to Manipulate equations. Understand the units used in electrical and electronic engineering. Manipulate and change unit sizes associated with an equation. Solve equations relating to resistivity and resistance. Understand the meaning of resistance-temperature coefficient, and use it in the calculation of resistance over a range of temperature. Use the resistance colour code. Write and modify BASIC equations relating to the contents of this chapter. This chapter provides an introduction to a broad range of topics essential for anyone studying electronic and electrical engineering, ranging from the manipulation of equations, through units in common usage, to calculations involving resistivity and resistance-temperature coefficient.
